1970

Shift in health policy of the developed nations towards the prevention of chronic and degenerative diseases – mainly in response to reports linking type and quantity of fats with mortality from heart disease. Demographic shift – more of the population living over the age of 65 – cardiovascular disease and cancer now account for 70% of deaths, compared to 20% at the turn of the century.

One of the pieces of dietary advice offered by the American Heart Association, in response to these concerns, was a recommended allowance of eggs 3 per week
